Dear Parents,
The 2008/2009 winter season is upon us. We realize that our decision to open or close schools in bad weather has a vital effect on families. We also understand that our students are better served both academically and socially, by being in school. As always, our top priority is the safety of your children.
Whenever the Onondaga Central Schools are closed for any emergency, including inclement weather conditions, the major commercial radio stations in the Syracuse broadcast area (Y94, News Radio 570, FM99, 100.9, 106.5, TK-99, TK-105, Sunny 102, classic country) will be notified as soon as possible. In addition, television stations 3, 5, 9 and News 10 Now will be notified.
Please keep in mind that when our schools are closed, all scheduled activities, events, meetings and programs for that day will be cancelled.
The school closing information also applies to all students who receive bus transportation to private, parochial and BOCES school programs.
Although my staff and I do our absolute best in this process, we know that often no perfect decision exists. If you do not feel as though it is safe for your child to attend school, use your best judgment on whether he or she should attend. Also, please discourage your teenage children from driving in bad conditions and offer them alternatives if weather conditions worsen.
Parents, please remember to make arrangements in advance for the supervision of your children on ‘snow days’ or in the event of an early dismissal and review the plan with them often. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Joseph A. Rotella
Superintendent of Schools
